Death of freedom: Iraqi prisoners loses life before amnesty

Shafaq News/ A prisoner who was custody based on the general amnesty law of Iraq has died in custody and triggered demands for an investigation of alleged abuse in Baghdad International Airport.

According to a security source familiar with the case, Haider Saud Al-Ulayawi, a 39-year-old father of three children from Ramadi, had served a prison sentence for nine years to convict the theft from 2016. His family had been informed on Thursday that he would be broadcast in Ramadi the next morning in Ramadi. Instead, they were informed about his death by another prisoner early Friday.

Relatives who collected Al-Ulayawi's body from the Forensic Department of Baghdad reported visible signs of physical trauma. However, the department did not provide an official explanation for death and instructed the family to return to further clarification in a month.

The ShafaQ News corresponding reported that the family demands a transparent examination and legal steps against those responsible.

The prison management has not yet commented on the incident.

The case has once again sparked the concerns about the conditions in the Iraq habit system, in which reports on overcrowding, abuse and lack of supervision are still widespread.
