Atlanta Falcon's owner Arthur Blank on the death of Colts 'Jim Irsay:' deepest condolences ''

A unique pre -season game from 2005 in Tokyo means much more for the owner of Atlanta Falcons, Arthur Blank.

The falcons defeated the Indianapolis Colts (27-21), but outside the field Blank learned more about the Colt's owner Jim Irsay and Irsay's family. Blank was only three and a half years in his ownership and Irsay gave an insight into what made him one of the most popular owners of the NFL of the players.

“I got to know Jim and his family early in my possession when our teams played in the American Bowl in Japan in 2005,” said Blank in a release on Wednesday. “And during this time I spent first -hand how much he took care of his players, his employees and his family.”

Irsay died in sleep on Wednesday at the age of 65.

“The Colts and Irsay family have lost a passionate soul in Jim Irsay, and the NFL has lost a great owner who always talked about what he has for the right for the league and the game,” said Blank in the explanation. “He was brought up in our game and I always appreciated his commitment and really enjoyed serving with him in various committees.

“I also have a deep respect and admiration for how he took care of others and tried to help his part, especially those who have to deal with mental health problems.”

Irsay, whose father Robert owned the team in Baltimore and brought it to Indianapolis, was appointed general manager of the Colts as a 24-year-old. After a decade in this role, Irsay switched to a financial position in the front office and became the owner of the Colts in 1996.

Almost three decades later, Irsay's résumé shows a record of 257-194-1, a great bowl ring and an indelible influence on thousands of players, trainers and employees sowock within as well as outside of Indianapolis.

“On behalf of the Atlanta Falcons, I expand Jim's family and friends and Colts fans everywhere everywhere,” said Blank. “Jim leaves an outstanding heritage and he will be deeply missing.”
