Monticello – a victory from history.

That is what the Monticello girl's football team is able to do after the convincing 4-0 victory on Saturday against Athens/Petersburg Porta in a semi-final game in class 1a in Dwight B. Wilkey Sports Complex.

“The girls came to play,” said Monticello coach David McDaniel. “Athens has a strong crime, so we knew that we had to be efficient with our chances, and it led to several options. I love how the girls got together more and more. The fans were from Pregame to the game and we gave their energy. Every playoff game has fed so far more Monticello -Purpur. We love it when we are behind ourselves.

The victory transforms the Weisen (25-3) on Tuesday in Monticello at 4:30 p.m. into a section championship game against Williamsville (22-5). The balls continued after a 9-0 victory against MACAMB in the second semi-final game on Saturday.

Monticello has never won a section title, and the match on Saturday was only the second section game for the wise – and first since 2009 – in the program history.

The wise wise and goalkeeper Allison Nebelsick took a 2-0 lead against Athens/Porta and doubled their advantage in the second half. Addison Fonet first started for the wise and found the back of the network almost seven minutes after the game of Bodznick.

Then Megan Allen made it 2-0 in the first half, and Bodznick again provided support.

In the second half, it was Bodznick's turn to include even more directly on the offensive. The outstanding senior for the wise sewers scored both goals from Monticello after half-time, with their first Monticello for 10 minutes in the second half scored a 3-0 lead and their second goal sealed the victory with five minutes.

Nebelsick, supported by further excellent effort from the defense of the wise, also shone online and recorded the 50th rashes of their career in victory. She will try to get the 51st on Tuesday, while Monticello wants to keep his season going as long as possible.

“I am excited because it proves that the work and the commitment we introduced paid off,” said McDaniel. “We understand the moment and the quality of the opponent in Williamsville. Every team is good in the off -season and it depends on the execution. We will be ready.”

Baseball

Blue Devils win regional title. Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin has improved over the course of the season.

It showed up on Saturday. The fourth Blue Devils, who held a 4: 3 victory in Westville in the second seed to achieve a regional title in class 2a, the first regional championship of the program since 2018.

“We were at a point 6-8 this season and it didn't look good for us,” said Bhra coach Mark Dodd. “Our young children had to fight themselves for the first time with the playing of the baseball with uni -baseball, and their hard work and determination was really the key to improvement as a team. This victory was a total team performance.”

Cruz Dubois stood out on the plate on Saturday and on the hill for BHRA (19-9), which will play on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in a section game at the Workman Family Baseball Field in Decatur on the Millikin University campus in Monticello (28-5).

Dubois went 2 for 4 and threw a complete game. He distributed six hits and walked two while he was eight.

“Chaz was a warrior on the hill, fought through stressful situations and made Clutch -Stiele when he had to,” said Dodd.

Dubois worked in the sixth and seventh inner nings from supporting jams to keep the Tiger (22-6) in chess. BHRA led 4-2 after three innerings, but Westville switched his deficit to 4: 3 at the end of the sixth.

Matthew Darling went 2 for 3 with an RBI and Cameron SteinbauGH 2 for 4 with a solo homerun to Pace Westville. Ben Johnson (1 for 2, RBI) also threw in. Steinbaugh threw all seven innings and gave up eight goals. He went two and struck one.

“We did the little things to get able to win against a very good Westville team,” said Dodd. “In our program in our small school, it was always a matter of developing our athletes physically and mentally to be difficult when situations are most stressful. It is the culture that we have so hard to build, and our children bought fully in all of our sports.”

Young delivers for wise. Give the ball and watch him to work.

The Monticello Senior and Illinois Signe met the moment on Saturday and threw a two hits shoutout to lead the top-Sagen-wise in a regional title game in class 2a in Forsyth to a 5-0 win against Maroa Forsyth with the fifth seed.

“Ike did a great job on the hill and our defense was solid behind him,” said Monticello coach Chris Jones. “We were able to use some of their Miscues offensive.”

Monticello (28: 5) took over a 2-0 lead in the lower end of the second and added individual runs in the third, fourth and fifth inner rings to achieve the victory. Young just spent one walk and struck nine.

Colton Vance went 3 for 3 with an RBI to take the wise offensively while Dawson drove Gaitros in one run and Eric Arnold added a double.

The regional title is the second time in Monticello and third place in the last four seasons. The wise men will play on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in a semi-final game on the Workman Family Baseball field in Decatur on the Millikin University campus in a semi-final game at Millikin University.

“Regional titles are never easy,” said Jones. “You need a lot of things to go in the way and we were lucky that this happened. We have a great group of seniors. Your lead throughout the year has really contributed to bringing some of our younger boys with us to rely on.”

GCMS comes through with the title. Gibson City-Melvin-Sibyy, who, with the top seeds on the way to a 4-2 win against the fourth seed and moderator in a regional championship game in class 1a, was made their second regional title in a row.

“To win it in a row, the success of the program and that several children and several grades have contributed,” said Dustin White, the veteran GCMS coach, who supervised the Falcons for the first time in the program history last season. “There were new people in this team who were not in the group last year, and this proves how difficult they worked and what efforts they did to improve.”

GCMS (16-11) relied on a big game by Brayden Elliott, whereby the senior 2 was on the plate for 4 with an RBI and also threw six high-quality innings. Elliott only allowed five goals and two walks while reaching 10. Zeb Greer came on the bottom of the seventh and excluded the team to earn the rescue and sent GCMS on Wednesday in Arcola at 4 p.m. in a semi-final game against Mt. Pulaski (22-6).

Conner Kinzinger went with an RBI 2 for 4, while Graydon Leonard (1: 3, RBI), David Hull (2 for 4) and Brayden Bradbury (1 for 2) after the first inn, also aggressively contributed 2-0 as GCMS, 3-0 after the second inning and 4-0 after the third inning.
