Ex-WSU Cougars Guard opts for NBA Draft about Duke Transfer

Seattle (AP) – Former WSU Cougars Guard Cedric Coward, who originally intended to the transition to Duke, will instead keep his name in the NBA design of 2025, he told ESPN on Saturday.

Coward achieved an average of 17.7 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists in six games for the Cougars last season before his year ended due to a partially torn shoulder -labrum. In its six games at the WSU, the 6-foot 6-fowl shot 40% from the 3-point range and scored a season high of 30 points in a victory against Nord-Colorado.

The 21-year-old Coward started his college career in the III Willamette division in Oregon in 2021. He then moved to East Washington, where he spent two seasons and was an all-Big sky selection of the first team last spring. In spring he followed the former East Washington coach David Riley to WSU.

Coward joined the transfer portal last month and initially committed to Duke. But after a strong performance at the NBA Combine this month, his plans have changed.

Born in Fresno, California, is the projected overall selection in ESPN of ESPN. The NBA design is June 25th to 26th.
