The Stillman College mourns the deaths of students, 2 alumni in the accident

The Stillman College in Tuscaloosa mourns the loss of the death of a student and two youngest alumni, who were killed in a car accident in Georgia on Friday evening.

In a press release on Saturday, the HBCU said that the current student of Stillman College Sieas Elliot and Alumni Destiny Gardner and Varick Lawrence were killed on Friday in a wreck in the Atlanta area.

“This is a terrible tragedy for everyone in our Stillman family. The spirit of each of these proud breastfeeding maniters will live with all the lives that were greeted by their warm smile and their welcome personality. The entire community of Stillman College mourns the loss of this heartbreaking loss. We expand our sincerely to their families, friends, class mators and teammates in this incredibly difficult time.

In the press release, Stillman said that Elliot was from Stockbridge, Georgia and played baseball for the tigers. He was supposed to graduate in this academic year and planned to work as a co -trainer for the baseball team. He was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

The college said that Destiny Gardner and Varick Lawrence were valued alumni and deeply employed with the Stillman family and the wider community.

Gardner was Miss Stillman 2021-2022, a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and was a member of the UNCF National Pre-Alumni Council.

She worked as a youth officer in the DEKALB Regional Youth Hachly Center in Dekalb County, Georgia, and shared a son with the third victim Lawrence.

Lawrence was also a baseball player and completed in 2023. He worked as a coach in Atlanta and was a member of the Omega Psi Phi Brotherhood.

“I am deeply sad to learn from the tragic loss of life two former student athletes, Sieas Elliot and Varick Lawrence, and Miss Destiny Gardner. The Ministry of Athletics wishes to express our deepest condolence from the 2018-2025. Always mourn and celebrate the life of Varick and Sieas.

Jean Wilson, director of the Alumni affairs, also mourned the tragic defeat.

“Varick and Destiny embodied the spirit of Stillman College – determined, compassionate and always sought to excellence. As alumni, she continued to raised others and gave examples of leadership qualities in her communities. Their loss is deeply noticeable in the alumni family.”
