The historic racing driver Julian Grimwade dies during the crash in Donington Park

The popular historical racing driver Julian Grimwade was killed in an accident at a Vintage Sports-Car Club event in Donington Park, the second fatal accident in British motorsport on Saturday (May 24).

Grimwade drove his Oakland Romano Special in the Mephistopheles & Lanchester Trophy Contest for machines before 1925, which opened the race of the day when he crashed in the first round.

While the race was immediately flableled, two subsequent races took place in Donington before the rest of the one -day meeting was abandoned.

Grimwade was a productive competitor of history creation that had a variety of events, including Hillclimbs, mainly in cars before the war. He was regularly in Goodwood and often fought the SF -DGE trophy at the general meeting, also in a Frazer Nash Norris special.

Grimwades crashed only a few hours after the British passenger Dai Roberts was killed in an accident against the Jim Clark rally in Scotland.

This was the second fatal accident at a VSCC device in the past two years after Roger Twelveteres' death in Mallory Park in August 2023 in Mallory Park.

In accordance with the crash of the Roberts and other fatal accidents, the British Motorsport Leadership committee Motorsport UK established an investigation of the circumstances in connection with the incident.

AutoSport sends Grimwade's family and friends his sincere condolences.
