When the first death border tried to connect a broken world again, Death Beaching 2 tried: instead, the possible dangers of such connectivity tried on the beach – and Hideo Kojima himself tried to get two different historical Eras to get his point home.

In an interview in the latest edition of the Edge Magazine, the legendary game director compared the difference between his two open world-worlds with the difference between the Silk Road and the Times of the East India Company.

As always, Kojima may be cryptic, but the silk road or the silk routes were essentially a network of routes that make it easier and vice versa to trade to the rest of the world, starting during the Han dynasty, and meant that goods such as silk and spices could travel freely. Instead, the era of the East India Company allowed weapons and drugs to travel over the sea.

“The first game was like the silk road,” said Kojima. “It was about expanding connections in a country to enable useful deliveries. But the flipside is that negative things can also travel freely: cockroaches, violence, drugs.”
