Mercedes Benz On Thursday it said that Alabama will add a new vehicle in Alabama in the middle of President Donald Trump's car tariffs.

The German car manufacturer said he would localize the production of the “core segment vehicle” in his facility near Tuscaloosa by 2027. Officials refused to reveal details of the vehicle, but the system mainly produces Mercedes-Benz-SUVs.

“We get closer to the US customer by localizing a core segment model in Tuscaloosa and strengthening our connections to the North American market, on which a number of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, including the GLE and GLS models, have their roots,” said Jason Hoff, CEO from Mercedes-Benz North America.

A spokesman for Mercedes-Benz refused to comment on whether the new vehicle in Alabama was a result of Trump's tariffs, citing a “local strategy” for the production of vehicles in which he sells it.

The car manufacturer said that Alabama's work had established itself as “the global export hub for Mercedes-Benz-Suvs”. The company said that around 60% of the SUVs gathered in the plant are exported.

The announcement takes place in the middle of Trump's 25% car tariffs for imported vehicles and additional taxes of 25% for automotive parts that should come into force until Saturday.
