According to the Illinois State Police, officials with troops 6 reacted to the intersection of US 67 and Woodson Winchester Road about the report on a fatal traffic accident shortly before 2:15 p.m. Two people were pronounced and two were flown to St. John's Hospital in Springfield with injuries.

On Saturday evening, Todd Fox, the superintendent of the Schools of Pittsfield, confirmed that the two killed students Jesse Davidsmeyer, a senior and Joel Noble, were a junior.

“As a school and community, we are overwhelmed in absolute shock and grief,” Fox wrote on Facebook. “In the coming days we will advise Pikeland and have additional resources for all needy. Pupils. “Please keep the families of Jesse Davidsmeyer and Joel Noble, the injured and everyone who is affected in their thoughts and prayers. I will deliver further updates later. I love everyone so much.”

This is the second fatal traffic accident in which Pittsfield students have been involved in the past four months.

The intersection and the streets were closed until around 8 p.m. on Saturday. The incident is examined by the Morgan County Coroner's Office and Illinois State Police.
