Android Auto Get Spotify -Jam and Support for Video Apps and Webbrowser

Android Auto receives more than just Google's Gemini assistant after the Google I/O developer conference. The company has also announced a number of changes or announced in any other way that are available in the Infotainment operating system, including an updated Spotify app, a light mode and the introduction of web browsers and video apps.

Let's start with Spotify. In a video last week, Google announced that the Spotify app for Android Auto will receive a revision via new media app templates that the company provides developers. A function that the music service adds to Android Auto is Spotify Jam, a function with which users can share control over an audio source from their individual devices.

In cars with Android Auto, this means that everyone steps in with Spotify by tapping a new “Jam” symbol on the touchscreen of the car and then scans a QR code to add the upcoming songs to the playlist. As a Spotify function, it is much more integrative than the similar SharePlay function of Apple Music, in which everyone has an Apple device for participation. Spotify Jam will be available “in the coming months”, says the company.

Also in the video says Google says that it will shortly integrated a support for Quick Sire on cars with Google. In this way, users can add things like stops to increase the Google Maps routes in the programs. The company also says that it will add the Passkey support for its infotainment operating system.

Via a Google Figma kit that Google has made for Prototyping Android Auto App user interface, we also take a new look at a light mode topic at which the company is working for Android Auto. Google didn't say 9to5google Notes, the UI option has been in progress for years.

One thing that Google mentioned – and briefly – is that browser and video apps come to Android Auto. The company states that the app category together with video apps “Soon” will be available for Android Auto and that gaming apps are already available in beta. According to Google, these functions of course only work while a car is in the park. The browser function is already available in beta for cars with integrated Google, while video apps are already available in this version of its infotainment system. The company also announced that the support for weather apps is not officially from the beta.
