Pacers fans roar after the new Indy 500 champion Alex Palou at game 3 against Knicks

Associated Press

Indianapolis (AP) – the winner of Indianapolis 500, Alex Palou, received a rousing ovation when he was presented on Sunday in the second quarter of the third game of the final Eastern Conference.

Palou brought the winner's wreath and wore the jersey of the Indiana Pacers Guard Tyrese Haliburton, a two-time all-star when the video of his celebration was played on the track on the stadium's video screen.

Palou made the short hike from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, where he won the race in the afternoon, to Gainbridge Fieldhouse, where the Pacers organized their longtime rival New York Knicks. It was only the fourth time in the 109 Indianapolis 500s, in which the Pacers organized a playoff game on race day, and Indiana lost all three of the previous games – 1999, 2004 and 2013.

Indiana coach Rick Carlisle opened his press conference in Pregame by congratulating Palou and finding that he was the first Spaniard who won and at the same time described a “big race”.

Indiana took over a 2-0 series with winning the first two games in New York.
