A mother in New Hampshire has settled her illegal complaint against the state for 2.25 million US dollars.

According to New Hampshire Public Radio, the lawsuit was submitted last September on behalf of the plaintiff Crystal Sorey, the mother of the late Harmonie Montgomery. In court files, Sorey's lawyers say that the state department for children, adolescents and families did not protect the 5-year-old girl from foreseeable abuse when she was moved with her father Adam Montgomery in 2019.

In the lawsuit it was claimed that the New Hampshire DCYF received several reports on the well -being of Harmony after the transition from a family court based in Massachusett's resident after Adam Montgomery. In one of the examples mentioned in the lawsuit, a complaint cites that harmony has returned from a trip to Florida with a blue eye and other visible signs of abuse.

“When returning to New Hampshire from Florida on July 22, 2019, the reporter found that the five -year harmony had a” shiner “,” said the lawsuit. “According to the report, Adam had said that he left harmony alone with Baby DM while he went into the bathroom. While there beity began to cry and harmony, her hand put her hand over DMS mouth. In response, Adam had knocked out the dog for her.

The same reporter also informed the division of children, adolescents and families that the house in Montgomery was borderline uninhabitable, which were allegedly covered in dirt and without permanent power source.

“Too many children in need of protection are injured and killed under the watchful eye of the state,” said Rilee in an explanation of 2024. “It has happened too long, and something has to be done to stop it – enough is enough.”

Adam Montgomery was sentenced to at least 56 years in prison in May 2024. He was found guilty

According to the conditions of the comparison, the state is not obliged to admit misconduct.

In return for the withdrawal of your lawsuit, Sorey receives a payment of 2.25 million US dollars.

In an earlier report, New Hampshire Public Radio found that Sorey's lawsuit is not unprecedented. In recent years, hundreds of residents have reported abuse in the state youth criminal centers. And on Friday, the General Prosecutor's office announced two further settlements in claims for children's homicides and abuse.

“The state agreed to these settlements to avoid longer legal disputes and to support the closure of the families,” said John Formella, Attorney General of New Hampshire. “We recognize their profound loss and hope that this will bring a certain amount of peace.”
