5 years after the death of George Floyd, the protesters of Chicago meet the Bundesplatz for justice and reform

On the five-year anniversary of George Floyd's death, around 200 activists gathered at the Federal Plaza on the Memorial Day weekend and increased their voices and signs to request justice and make a wide range of questions-from immigration rights to support the Palestinian and continued police reform.

What we know:

Demonstrators said their presence was a strong memory of their ongoing struggle for bourgeois freedom.

“I think it is important to show every opportunity we can protest against the demolition of our rights,” said a demonstrator.

Many called for the complete implementation and implementation of George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. The legislation, which was first introduced in 2020, aims to blam the law enforcement authorities for misconduct, to improve transparency and to improve police training.

“The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act was developed for people like me and it to get justice if they had those who abuse their power,” said Marquinn McDonald, member of the 2nd district council for the Chicago Commission for Public Security and Accountability, which was also present at the rally.

Trump's executive order:

The demonstration was carried out weeks after President Donald Trump issued an executive regulation entitled “Strengthening and publication of American law enforcement to persecute criminals and the protection of innocent citizens”.

The guideline suggests that the federal government's consent, increases the availability of equipment from military quality for police departments and that local leaders are accountable for the limitation of police activity.

McDonald said that the Chicagoers want to see the healing among the police and the public.

“I spoke to the superintendent and spoke to many commanders and civil servants in the department (police). My family is a police. They really want to see a developed department, a healed and better department,” said McDonald.

Chicago's approval decree:

With regard to Chicago's own declaration of consent, a federal supervisory contract that is supposed to reform the city's police department was slow.

According to the city's independent monitor, Chicago had met only 16% of the prescribed reforms in the previous month – areas such as the use of violence, officer training and wellness, community police, accountability and transparency.

When the demonstrators moved through the loop, her message was clear: the work is far from over.

“It is our families who come to the USA for the so -called American dream,” said an activist.

The Chicago police said the demonstration was peaceful and without problems.
