Live updates: US National Security Adviser Mike Waltz to leave mail

The signal chat error was explainedPublished at 16:09 British summer time

At the end of March, the editor-in-chief in Atlantic Magazine, Jeffrey Goldberg, reported that he was accidentally added to a signal chat by a user named Mike Waltz.

In this chat there were civil servants from first -class administrative officials who were identified as Vice President JD Vance and Defense Minister Pete Hegseth.

Goldberg said that he had seen military plans for US strikes in Yemen two hours in front of the bombs, including arms packages, destinations and timing.

At first, Waltz said he did not know how Goldberg got in chat, but took over in an interview with Fox News “full responsibility”, as he said he was the one who “built the group”.

Sources told the US partner CBS News and the Guardian of the US partner of BBC that Waltz tried to add a top spokesman to the signal chat when he accidentally added Goldberg instead.

They said the investigators found that Goldberg's number was accidentally saved in Waltz as an alternative contact for the national security spokesman Brian Hughes.

In the end, President Trump said that he would “examine” the topic.
