I-70 close to exit 62 for the police investigation of a fatal 3-vehicle crash in Maryland

Maryland State Police is investigating a double deadly traffic accident that took place on the I-70 in Frederick County this afternoon.

The crash included a box truck and a BMW SUV that led to the death of two passengers in the box truck that was declared dead at the scene.

The incident took place around I-70 at around 4:10 p.m. near the exit 62.

According to a preliminary police investigation, the BMW SUV drove west and ended up the boxing truck, which crossed the average median and collided with a dead end in the east.

Both the boxing truck and the tractor-trailer were pushed into the nearby wood line and caught fire.

The drivers of the boxing truck and the tractor were flown to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center by Maryland State Police Aviation Command.

The driver of the BMW stayed at the scene and refused medical treatment, while two BMW passengers were brought to the Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown.

From 7:00 p.m., both directions of the I-70 remain closed between Route 75 and Route 27, as Maryland State Police and Frederick County Fire and Rescue employees continue their work on site. The administration of the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway supports with road closures and rounds.
