Dash Camera video of the jury in Patrick Lyoya Mord Trial shown

Grand Rapids, me. – The trial against Christopher Schurr, the former Grand Rapids police officer, who was charged with Patrick Lyoya in 2022, began on Monday.

During the afternoon statements, jurors are displayed for the first time the Dash camera video from the initial traffic stop.

The jury also showed photos of Schurr after the fight, which highlighted his injuries.

Jessica Beaudry, a crime scene technician at the Grand Rapids Police Department, said in photos that Schurr took her.

“He stated that his right wrist felt sore and when I examined it, it looked a little swollen,” said Beaudry.

The jury left the courtroom while the lawyers discussed whether Lyoya's crime history was relevant in the case.

The defense asked the judge to allow them to discuss the crime history of Lyoya, which includes the third crime that is intoxicated and domestic violence.

“We believe that the door had been opened by the public prosecutor,” said defender Matthew Borgula to the judge.

The public prosecutor's office Chris Becker rejected that Schurr did not know on the day of the traffic -emergency and the shootout of Lyoya's crime history.

The judge Christina Mims does not believe that the door was opened to introduce crime history.
