A local hospital shows an improved safety grade in the new report

Wilmindton, NC (ET) – The security classes in spring 2025 did not change for two local hospitals, but increased according to the Leapfrog Group.

Novant Health New Hannover Regional Medical Center and Columbus Regional Healthcare System both received an overall level of “C” for the security of the hospital. Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center received an “A”.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, formerly known as hospital security values, is a report published in spring and autumn to provide the gap in the public security and quality information.

According to the hospital security website, the assessment is determined on the basis of up to 30 national performance measures from the centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the Leapfrog Hospital survey and information from other additional data sources.

Using these data sources, a letter note is generated that represents the overall performance of the hospital.

Areas in which every hospital does worse than the average include the following:

Novant Health New Hannover Regional Medical Center

  • Problems with the operation: Dangerous object in the patient's body, surgical wound loss, open serious complications, blood clever, severe breathing problem, accidental cuts and tears.
  • Infections: Infection in the urinary tract, surgical location infection after colon operation, sepsis infection after the operation.
  • Security problems: Harmful events.
  • Doctors, nurses and hospital staff: Responsibility of the hospital staff.

Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center

  • Problems with the operation: Surgical wound divisions open
  • Security problems: Latin dislimings and injuries
  • Doctors, nurses and hospital staff: Nursing and bedside for patients, specially trained doctors for the intensive care patients, responsiveness of the hospital staff

Columbus Regional Healthcare System

  • Infections: Infection in the blood
  • Security problems: Harmful events, dangerous bed wounds, living trends and injuries, dangerous blood clots
  • Doctors, nurses and hospital staff: Specially trained doctors take care of intensive care patients

The hospitals came better for the following than the average:

  • Doctors, nurses and hospital staff: Effective leadership to prevent errors, nursing and bedside for patients, specially trained doctors for the intensive care unit in the intensive care unit

Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center

  • Infections: Infection in the blood
  • Problems with the operation: Dangerous object in the patient's body, death due to treatable serious complications, blood clever, serious breathing problems, random cuts and tears
