Crooked builders who bribe in Devon

Richard King and Timothy Patterson from the RK building engineering admitted to paying bribes

Six people were concentrated on the cranbrook development in East Devon because of their participation in a criminal conspiracy, bribery, money laundering and fraud.

Three construction processes admitted that the then employees of the Energy Company E.ON agreed to have bribed around 2 million GBP for contracts for contracts for a major Devon apartment development.

It was found that two former E.ON employees have accepted bribes in the form of cash, false invoices, references and house improvements in exchange for work in connection with Cranbrook.

The bribes began in 2011 and lasted until the end of 2015 when E.ON discovered and reported illegal activities. There was no misconduct by the energy company itself.

In 2010 when Cranbrook was developed with new buildings and E.ON was awarded for the project with a contract to provide district heating. Mark Baker was appointed project manager of E.ON and then the construction board for the project, with Matthew Heyward used as a quantity vermet and which was responsible for signing work.

Part of the role of Baker was to decide which companies should receive construction contracts in Cranbrook and later at other locations in Great Britain. Heyward played a key role in the approval of the payment of the contractor's invoices, especially at Cranbrook.

Baker accepted bribes from people behind the companies Priddy Engineering Limited and RK Civil Engineering, with Heyward also receiving illegal payments.

Priddy Engineering Limited was controlled by Andrew Blunsdon, who paid both Mark Baker and Heyward bribes.

RK Civil Engineering LTD (RKC) was one of a group of companies that were controlled by Richard King. King's partner at RKC was Timothy Patterson and bank accounts associated with the two, Baker and Heyward paid more than 1.5 million GBP.

The bribes arrived in the form of cash, money for bank accounts, the use of prestige cars, free hotel rooms, free construction work and false references.

“This was a complex and time -consuming examination, but we are happy to have worked together with E.ON and to ensure convictions against six defendants who believed that rules do not apply to them and they could do what they wanted to achieve their desired goal.

The crimes

Priddy Engineering LTD, the bakers and Matthew Heyward

In February 2011, the bakers received a wrong employer who was transferred to a real estate agent with invented information about the income and employment of Angela Baker, so that they could rent an expensive house in Lincolnshire.

Related information

In 2011 and 2012, Blunsdons Priddy had a current contract with E.ON in Cranbrook and during this period Heyward had around 40,000 GBP of bribes.

The bakers had moved to Devon by summer 2012, and Blunsdon continued to confess by Mark Baker by arranging and paying a climate system unit that was installed in his wife's florist shop.

Blunsdon then submitted an invoice to e.on. as part of his company's ongoing contract with the company The invoice was signed by Heyward.

RK Civil Engineering LTD and Mark Baker

RKC was a company based in Leicestershire that had a lucrative contract with E.ON as a preferred contractor. However, RKCs King and Patterson also had a corrupt relationship with Baker and Heyward.

From the beginning of 2012 to the end of 2015, RKC paid bribes to Mark Baker with a total of 175,000 GBP.

Mark Baker had to cover up the bribes in her accounts and submitted a number of false invoices about his company Baker Projects LTD to RKC, which are often marked as “wages”, although Mark Baker did not work for RKC.

Mark Baker also received bribes from RKC in the form of false references to employment to receive rental objects and mortgages, free construction work and improvements to one of his houses, a climate system unit on the florist and a range Rover.

RK Civil Engineering LTD and Matthew Heyward

At the same time, RKC also bribed Heyward, but on an even larger scale than Mark Baker.

During this period, Heyward, a total of £ 1.4 million, once again accepted by false bills, which was submitted to RKC by two companies associated with Heyward. Later during this time, King and Patterson moved to Heyward and bought him chic hotel rooms and supplied him with an Audi car.

Acquire criminal property

Heyward had a raging gaming habit, a habit that he shared with Patterson. Heyward, who thrown part of the money received from RKC to Patterson, who then spent it.

A total of more than 500,000 pounds were resigned to Patterson.

The bakers and their properties

Between 2011 and 2014 Mark and Angela Baker drew four times with the house, with each of the movements managed by fraud.

In 2012, the Lincolnshire bakers moved to Devon to be closer to the website in Cranbrook. A second fraud was required to rent this property.

In her rent application it was wrongly stated that Angela Baker had worked for RKC on an annual salary of 60,000 GBP. Patterson made it possible to contact Mark Baker by creating a reference and false wage slides.

In 2013, the bakers took off their first Devon property and started buying a house with a mortgage. The plan was to find a house, to do it and sell it out of profit, but the couple was not ready to pay the house or the subsequent improvements.

RKC paid the deposit and received the mortgage through fraud with the help of King and Patterson. RKC then paid improvements at home.

The ownership in Okhampton and Angela Baker informed the bank that the deposit was a gift from her father.

The majority of the deposit came from RKC as a camouflaged bribe to Mark Baker. Further money was received in smaller amounts.

Angela Baker logged the bank by saying that she was working for RKC on a salary of £ 85,000 a year, with fake wage exposure being created again to disguise the fraud that was involved in both bakers, King and Patterson.

RKC paid the property worth 50,000 pounds before the house was sold by the bakers at a profit.

After the bakers spent some of the winnings for a car and vacation, they bought a house in Yorkshire at the end of 2013.

To buy this property, Angela Baker again claimed that the mortgage is an RKC employee who earns £ 84,000 a year. King created a wage slide to enable this.
