Jeffrey Knight, the driver of the boat who hit the back of the ferry, was not charged criminals in the incident. He held the crash responsible for the lack of proper lighting of the ferry and accused the crew of the ferry to be distracted by dolphins.

Castro's sister Sandy Todd tore off the captain's arguments, which were given to the local authorities in a letter from his lawyer.

“What he did was that he killed my brother in this accident, with some reason, light, light, no light … who knows,” she said in an interview with Wfla.
