HLT missionar killed from Magna after being hit by a car

According to an announcement by the church, the 18-year-old had started his mission in March.

A missionary of the Church of Jesus Christ of the saints of the past few days from Utah was approached and killed by a car, said an release of the church.

Aleki Langi, 18, was a member of a Magna community of the church and began his mission in March, according to the press release. He had been temporarily sent to a mission in Charlotte, North Carolina, while waiting for a visa so that he could begin his mission in Kingston, Jamaica.

According to a press release from the church, a car drove to the sidewalk on Thursday and hit Langi and another missionary. The other missionary suffered minor injuries and was released from the hospital. A third mission attendant was not injured, it says in the release.

A report by the Charlotte TV station WCNC says that the three missionaries were on the bicycles when the driver lost control of the vehicle and went on the sidewalk. The police said the driver had fled the scene according to the television report.

“We expand Elder Langi's family, friends and other missionaries in this difficult time our deepest condolences and our love,” says the press release.
