Colorado Motorcycle Crash deaths fall after record high in 2024

Deadly motorcycle accidents on the streets of Colorado are on the right track to be due to a record high of 165 deaths in 2024 this year, the state transport officers announced this week.

The deaths of motorcycle crash deaths made a quarter of all traffic deaths last year, although motorcycles only made up 3% of all vehicles, the Colorado Ministry of Transport said in a press release.

The number of people who have been killed in motorcycle accidents has increased by almost 60% since 2015, and about half of all fatal accidents concern someone, according to state data who does not wear a helmet.

Darrell Lingk, director of the CDOT office for traffic safety, described the increasing deaths as “call to action” for all Colorado drivers.

“We have to look for one after the other,” said Lingk in an explanation. “And with all of our motorcyclists, they wear a helmet and protective equipment – it is number 1 to prevent serious injuries or deaths in the event of a crash.”

Deadly motorcycle accidents have dropped by 20% this year compared to the same time in 2024 and reflects a decline in all traffic deaths this year.
