This intelligent fitness product could be the perfect companion for Apple Watch

Avelo Running is a fitness -oriented startup that recently emerged from Stealth to unveil her first product. What the company builds has the potential to be the perfect running companion for Apple Watch. However, every runner with a smartphone can benefit from it without bringing a phone or looking at the run.

Avelo fascinated me from the moment when the company crossed my radar – before I revealed its actual product – although I was worried that their running solution could ask me to choose between him and my Apple Watch.

I am not sure if I would ever have run my first mile without the Apple Watch, let alone my first 5 km or seventh half marathon. The watch is much more than just a run tracker for me, and I am not interested in strapping more technology for myself.

However, Avelo does not try to fight for space on the wrist. Instead, the company will compete in a market in which the brand loyalty has even more cult status: running shoes.

Avelo running shoes in my head are the spiritual successor to the Nike+iPod Sport Kit from almost 20 years ago.

Nike supported a connected running system that was quite rudimentary by 2025. It consisted of a single sensor that was either attached to a running shoe or embedded in a running shoe, and a receiver that was connected to an iPod. The system covered the duration of the training, the distance, the pace and the calories with mixed accuracy.

Comparable running data is currently a much higher loyalty thanks to heart rate sensors, GPS and advanced algorithms. Apple also drove the watch beyond the measurement of basic training data. Now Apple Watch is executed and ongoing form elements including vertical vibration, floor contact time and stride length are displayed. But Apple also acknowledges that a number of sensors on the wrist cannot measure all training data. For this reason, the Apple Watch can include, for example, with Bluetooth accessories for cycling training.

Avelo's intelligent running shoes can correspond to the accessories: specially built hardware that improves what a smartwatch can do without competing. And they are not some intelligent shoes – they are first built as a super coach to be loved by runners before technical considerations come into play.

This is just the hardware aspect. Avelo aims not only to collect more ongoing data with greater accuracy, but also to provide feedback and coaching that you can make you a better runner. This is an ambitious goal that requires a combination of specialist knowledge and state -of -the -art technology that has not yet been gathered.

For this reason, Avelo pursues an Apple-like full stack approach. The company not only embeds a chip in a shoe. They build everything up – from shoes to sensor array to the software layer, which transforms the data of biomechanics into sensible insights. The team behind it combines experts in shoes, sports science and software engineering to provide data in a product that every runner can have.

And in contrast to almost any other intelligent product, Avelos clever shoes do not have to be recharged today. The battery is designed so that it lasts the full lifespan of the shoe. This is a big thing for a product that wants to become part of her everyday routine. Another important detail is that each shoe has its own sensor. This seems to be a matter of course for something that wants to create the most complete image of your mileage, but even the 2006 Nike system used a single sensor per pair shoes.

Avelo Running has certainly cut out her work for you. It is a challenge enough to create every product that you can convince runners. Do you ask the runners to trust you the material between your feet and the ground? This is a completely different hurdle, but one that runs Avelo to jump.
