Massaponax Senior shot after the alleged attempt to break burglary

A senior of the Massaponax High School is dead after a shootout early Saturday morning in the 2700 block of the McKenzie Lane in Spotsylvania County.

The Sheriff's office of Spotsylvania received a call at around 3 a.m. in relation to an incident, in which three people supposedly tried to collapse into a house in the subdivision of the River Club by stepping into the back door.

The resident went outside and confronted the alleged attempted intruders when they came from the back of the house. Shots were fired.

Michael Bosworth Jr., an 18-year-old who was later completed this month from Massaponax was shot in the upper body and died in a local hospital. A teenager was grazed with a ball, treated and released due to minor injuries. The third alleged intruder was intact.

The resident and the alleged attempted intruders were not charged. Captain Charles Carey from the Sheriff office said that he had no information whether one of the three people was armed.

“This is an ongoing examination of the circumstances that associated this incident,” says a press release from the sheriff's office. “Therefore, no fees were collected at this point.”
