10-year-old girl killed after Baum fell on her house in Atlanta

A 10-year-old girl died on Saturday after a tree, according to the city's fire brigade, fell on her house in the southwest of Atlanta.

The girl and grandmother of the girl were also hospitalized after the incident, but is expected to recover, the Atlanta fire brigade said in an explanation.

The AfD said six people lived in the house and the American Red Cross had been contacted to help the family.

Officials have not published the names of the family members.

Brian Kemp, Governor of Georgia, recognized the girl's death on X.

“This morning we are sad about the tragic death of this young girl as a result of the storms of the last night,” wrote Kemp. “We ask that all Georgians pray for their loved ones in this difficult time.”

The incident takes place a few weeks after parts of the south and the middle west – including Atlanta – unprecedented, extreme weather.

Last month, the regions were beaten with historical rainfall, strong winds and fatal floods, with at least 19 people being killed.

According to the National Weather Service, around 73 million people were under flood warnings during the episode of the extreme weather.
