The Chicago Shakespeare Theater has just published video highlights for the upcoming production of Hymn, which runs until May 25, 2025. Look at the line -up in action!

Chiké Johnson, who plays the role of Benny, says: “What makes sense for me about this show is the love of two black men who had their challenges, how we all have and how they come together and enjoy each other.”

The legendary director of Chicago, Ron OJ Parson, leads the line -up and the creative team in Chicago to bring this deeply resonant homage to the male friendship on stage. The creative team also includes scenic and projection designer Rasean Demteé Johnson, the costume designer Yvonne Miranda, the light designer Jason Lynch as well as the sound designer and composer Willow James.

About the show

Two men from two very different parts of the city meet as strangers, but soon – they sing the same melody. Benny is a loner who is anchored by his wife and children. Gil longs to exploit his potential. They form a deep bond, but appear as cracks in their fragile life, they realize that true courage comes in different forms. This soulful piece is on Chicago's South Side and with the sounds of R&B, Gospel and House Music in the houses.
