The leaders of Richmond promote peace in the neighborhood in which teenagers were killed

Richmond, Va.-Die Mayor, gathered in Richmonds Gilpin Court on Saturday to promote peace and provide a month after the 15-year resources after a 15-year-old was fatally shot in the neighborhood.

The event, which took place on the corner of the Charity Street, was to bring hope to an area affected by youth pistol power after Dora Hill's death, which, according to the police, was shot by another teenager last month.

Gwendolyn Andrews from Richmond Community mediators helped organize the assembly, which provided food, activities and resources for residents of the neighborhood.

“Instead of gathering a sad occasion, we only wanted to have a solemn time here and let our youth know that we love them and take care of them,” said Andrews.

The event brought together the community mediators of the Richmond Police Department, the Richmond renovation and the housing authority, parks and relaxation as well as other partners of the community to offer local youth mentoring.

“We recently lost one of our young people, Dora, and so we promise that we will never forget them,” said Andrews.

“It also gives us a mission to make sure that we get the good news out, namely to put down the weapons and to lift and love themselves, instead of having conflicts that they cannot solve than taking up a weapon,” said Andrews.

The meeting was part of the youth prevention week, an initiative to increase the commitment of the community before the start of summer.

“I only believe that there is hope for this city and that we can turn this flood of gun violence over,” said Andrews. “I think if you know better, you'll do it better.”
