MPD says that the speed factor with almost fatal crash near Paia

Paia (Hawaiinewsnow) – The Maui police said that speed is a possible factor for an almost fatal crash that took place on Friday on Hana Highway.

The crash occurred around 3:43 p.m. near Nonohe Place in Spreckelsville.

MPD said that according to a first examination, a black truck was led east to the western lane while he overtook other vehicles.

The truck then fell frontally with a black sedan that was west.

The driver of the truck, a 52-year-old man from Paia, was brought to the Maui Memorial Medical Center with serious injuries.

The sedan driver was identified as a 68-year-old man.

A 73-year-old man was sitting in the passenger seat while a 63-year-old woman was a passenger in the back seat. The investigators said they had suffered life -threatening injuries.

The driver and passengers of the sedan all come from Idaho. They were brought to the Maui Medical Center.

The investigators said everyone in both vehicles wore seat belts at the time of the crash.

The police said speed was a factor in the crash. It was not determined whether drugs or alcohol were involved.

The crash is examined.
