Windsor firefighters areolating west ends ammonia leaks

The Windsor fire brigade has isolated an ammonia leaf in the west of the city, which led to the police closing several blocks on traffic.

Windsor Fire and Rescue Services on social media around 6.20 p.m. that the crews ventilated from the affected building and a worker suffered a “minor exposure violation”.

The incident started earlier a day, with Windsor Fire post at around 1 p.m. to the 1000 block Elliott St. W. reacted for chemical spill and that Hazmat units were in the scene.

About 45 minutes later, Windsor Fire said that it was an ammonia leak and the nearby buildings had been evacuated. The residents in the region were recommended to close all windows.

Shortly later, the fire brigade said that the ammonia would rise and dissolve and that “civilians can safely protect”.

“No security concerns for people outside the location of the building. WFRS Hazmat employee work to isolate the leak,” said the fire brigade on X, the platform known as Twitter.

The police had several blocks in the area for traffic, while at least four fire engines were in the area.
