Staten Island Fox increase sightings: Couple caught in the local cemetery on video

Staten Island, NY – On April 23, a few red foxes were seen under the tombstones in St. Andrew's Church.

The video by Nicole Fanizzi from Bay Terrace, which is installed by Bay Terrace, shows a few red foxes that chase each other in the cemetery of St. Andrew's Church as the sun interrupted in the middle of flowering trees.

Fanizzi said this was a unique moment for her.

“It was such a sweet experience to see the two foxes. They never see something like this in New York,” said Fanizzi. “I'm glad I got it on video.”

These two foxes are the latest in a number of sightings on Staten Island, after one was seen on April 8th in the Great Kills Park of Great Kills Park in Gateway National Recreation Area across the parking lot on Midland Beach and in another out.

“Foxes seem to appear everywhere,” said Matt Smith, the residents of Grasmere, who filmed Midland Beach Fox. “There are even foxes on the beach.”

Red foxes are not entirely unusual during the day, which are classified as “mostly nocturnal” creatures during the day by the New York City Wildlife website.

As such, it is better to observe foxes and deer from a distance to ensure that you and the animals remain safe – we want to live together.

Foxes have been New York for hundreds of years, without predators in the five districts, apart from occasional coyote. With officials who confirmed in 2022 that at least one lived on the island.

Staten of Islanders have discovered many foxes over the years, with some the question: Will a fox eat my pet?

In a March interview with the Advance/Silive.com, the clinical veterinarian of Staten Island Zoo, Dr. Julian Rivera, the following: “You can see your cat as prey, so I recommend keeping cats inside. [red foxes] It is unlikely that you see your dog as prey and tend to shy animals, you can wear diseases such as dog daution or rabies that can make your dog sick. For this reason, it is so important to vaccinate your pets. “
