St. Louis teen shot and killed in cars

St. Louis-a gang of thieves, which broke in the cars near Carondelet Park in the early Friday, fired shots where a 16-year-old boy killed one of her accomplices after a homeowner interrupted her, the police said.

The resident had apparently fired a warning shot into the ground after collapsing in cars in the 6300 block of the Vermont Avenue at around 2:10 a.m.

The police did not make any arrests, but the shot that killed the boy came from his friends – not from the homeowner.

“You are on the mission to find weapons,” said police spokesman Mitch McCoy about the thieves. “You are on the mission to arm yourself and commit other acts of violence throughout the region.”

The police have been struggling with car thieves and burglaries for years. Carjackings have led the police to high -speed hunts that have sometimes become fatal. And run-ins between home owners and thieves, similar to Friday, have also become violent.

Two years ago, a man from Clayton interrupted a group that was broke into cars and shot.

McCoy informed reporter in the police chief on Friday about the incident of the morning.

The teenager, who was killed on Friday, lived in North St. Louis, said the police. The authorities have not published its name. His accomplices let him off in the Barnes-Jewish hospital and then left. He died in Barnes.

According to McCoy, city detectives work with agencies in St. Louis County because the group of thieves used to break into cars in the suburbs in the morning.

It is not clear how many people in the group were.

McCoy refused to comment on the person who interrupted the break-ins, who is now considered a witness. McCoy said that he did not want to put anyone in danger by saying too much.

He said the report on the shootout could change if the investigators learn more, but early signs are that the boy “broke into numerous cars”.

At some point the thieves were interrupted, said McCoy. The thieves have fired several shots on someone and their accomplice was hit.

At least six cars are accommodated, said McCoy. He did not publish a description of the vehicle in which the thieves traveled.

The police realize that it is “frustrating” that people let their vehicle collapse, said McCoy. But “their life is worth more than their property” and he asked people to call 911 instead of trying to intervene when they see an ongoing crime.

In November 2023, a man in Clayton, 41-year-old Joshua Harris, was shot after interrupting people to break into his wife's car one morning. Two teenagers – Darrion A. Johnson and Trenell J. Johnson – are charged with Murder in the death of Harris.

McCoy said the city police are trying to catch thieves that collapse into cars. In March, a Grand jury in St. Louis raised 22-year-old Eugene Jamison III. On more than 50 charges in connection with numerous car breaks from the end of last year. Jamison broke windows, grabbed wallet from car seats and steel iPads, jewelry, a Nintendo switch and several weapons during a month, according to court files – during the probation for similar charges.

But the problems continue. Recently, the residents reported such thieves who drive their streets late at night.

About 2 a.m. in March, a 26-year-old man saw away from the Tower Grove South district near a front window and heard the windows break out outside. He peeked outside and saw an SUV switched off with the lights, “slowly through the neighborhood”, and three men who lagged behind on the street or on the sidewalk.

The resident said he shouted at her out of the window when they were ready to break into another car. They rapped away and the resident continued to scream. He said they stopped and opened the fire in his direction.

“I saw the flash of the mouth,” said the resident, who must not be identified.

Nobody was injured. He heard balls home and found ball holes in the house of a neighbor and some car windows.

He said next time he planned to take his car key and press the alarm button to deter it.

“I'll get my head down beforehand,” he added.
