Man who is charged with murder because of the kayaking of the woman at Lake Samsonvale in 2020

A 55-year-old man was charged with murder and fraud about the death of a woman who was initially seen as a random drown in Joyner north of Brisbane.

The man and a 54-year-old woman who were known to each other were on November 27, 2020 at Lake Samsonvale near Forgan Cove kayak when the woman fell into the water and drowned.

Spectators carried out an HLW, but could not revive them. She died at the scene.

Her death was initially regarded as accidental drowning. However, further coronial investigations have caused detectives from Petrie Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) to declare them suspiciously.

An investigation was initiated under Operation Victor Harlow, and Detective collected experts, including information from witnesses and the conditions of the lake at the time of the woman's death.

The man was arrested yesterday during a visit to Brisbane from his current address in Thailand.

The police will claim that he is involved in the drowning death of the woman.

He was charged with murder (domestic violence), fraud and attempted fraud.

He was denied the deposit of the police and is said to appear in Brisbane in front of the Magistrate Court.

“Incidents are not always what they originally seem, so I would like to thank the detective for their hardworking work in this lengthy and tedious examination,” said the reigning inspector Windsor.

“Due to her stubborn work, we have justice for the woman who died tragically on this day and her family.

“This is also an important memory of the community to report suspicious circumstances to the police, as they see them. Even if they appear insignificant, they may be an important piece for the puzzle during an examination.”
