2025 Miami Grand Prix Race Report and Highlights: Piatri victories from Norris and Russell as McLaren Seal with 1-2 in Miami Grand Prix

When round 8 ticked down, Verstappen continued to lead from Piatri, Antonelli, Norris, Russell, who seemed to fight with his hard tires – Sainz, Albon, Leclerc, Tsunoda and Ocon. It didn't take long for this to change again, as Norris soon brought in another position by passing Antonelli.

Alonso, who in the same corner in which he fell in the sprint on Saturday, was a heart-in-mom moment for Alonso-Aber, luckily it managed to avoid the walls on this occasion. Back in front, other tense scenes took place when Piatri tried to overtake Verstappen after she closed herself directly on the Red Bull.

Two attempts in round 11 were neglected, and Verstappen told Race Engineer Gianpiero Lambiase to “stay inside” and “to make him work for it”. All of this now left Norris to pursue the leading two cars. “It is super slippery to drive,” reported Verstappen, apparently with regard to the tires.

Piatri could no longer wait in round 14. After the Papaya car was initially forced far and had withdrawn from a movement, Verstappen then went out himself and went far, whereby Piatri broke through to become the new racing director.

And just a round later there was a feeling of Déjà Vu for Verstappen when Norris closed the world champion – but this time one step outside of turn 1 did not work for the British, which caused the McLaren team to train him on the radio how Piatri found a way to get past.
