In response to a graphic report on NBC News on the murder of an unarmed man in East Texa, the Sheriff's office in Rusk County continues to reject any responsibility for the murder in the direction of execution.

The NBC report contained the first national television program of Dashcam film material, which deals with Timothy Michael Randall from SGT. Shane Iversen, then at the Sheriff's station in Turnertown, Texas, a small town that is about two hours east of Dallas.

The cool dashcam video of the deadly traffic stop, which was published for the public in June 2024, clearly shows that Iversen Randall killed in cold blood. In addition, the video makes it clear that Randall was cooperative with Iversen's demands and that he never acted threatingly during the traffic stops.

The explanation of the Sheriff's office explained:

We are disappointed with NBC's presentation of the incident with deputy Iversen. In our view, the story has not delivered a balanced or complete report on the facts and the omitted context that shaped the reaction of the MP.

The explanation repeated the usual excuses for police conduct: It was “a decision with split second parts that was made solely” that the dash camera video “only grasps an angle of a developing situation” and that the victim of the shootout allegedly initiated violence, although the video shows the opposite.

Randall's mother Wendy Tippitt submitted a civil lawsuit against Rusk County and Iversen, who retired shortly after the murder from the sheriff's office.

Rusk County was finally rejected as a defendant, but in January 2025 a federal judge decided that Iversen was not protected after the teaching of the Supreme Court of “qualified immunity”. The federal district judge Jeremy Kernodle has considered this judgment and could make a decision at any time, which leads to either a public procedure or a rejection of the case.
