Gibson from Tuesday evening, injury updates, Pennington and more claimed

Orioles manager Brandon Hyde confirmed that the experienced right -handed Kyle Gibson will start against the Yankees on Tuesday evening.

Gibson has not positioned itself at High-A Aberdeen since April 20. He experienced some pain, but feels better.

The rotation could use a veteran hand that directs it in the right direction. The 5.83 -Aera is in the American League and 28TH In the majors, and it includes Opener Keegan Akins 1 2/3 goalless Innerings in game 2 of the Douleheader on Saturday in Detroit.

Gibson has not started for Orioles since September 30, 2023. He accused three reliefs against the Rangers in the elimination Game of the Division Series.

“I hope he can honestly bring a lot of things,” said manager Brandon Hyde. “I know one thing, he will compete every time and he is one of the best teammates I've ever been to a clubhouse. He played very well for us a few years ago, had a nice year in St. Louis last year. He kept us in the game two years ago two years ago and was absolutely fantastic.

“I hope we get this version. I know that we get an incredible person and a person and a real leader and a adult in the room that I am great.”

When asked whether the Orioles need this “adult in the room” after they lost six of their last seven games to overthrow the last place in the division with 10-17, Hyde said: “I just think we have to start playing better baseball.”

“It was difficult,” added Hyde. “We have a lot of talent, we have some people who are supposed to play really well for a good play. It was hard. I just read our injury list. It was not easy, with many people who did a lot of good things in this game and hope that they want to be back soon. But we want to play baseball.”

Gibson, Infielder Emmanuel Rivera and Catcher Maverick Handley are in the Taxi squad.

Rivera stays nearby if the Orioles have to bring the Jordan Westburg infield to the 10-day injured list of reasons for pain. Westburg did not play yesterday and was more tonight.

“He is every day at the moment,” said Hyde. “We still do a few tests on him. He is checked out. We remain optimistic and hopeful.”

Hyde made a number of injury updates available before asked his first question in his media meeting.

Kyle Bradish threw a Bullpen meeting today and feels “good,” said Hyde. Zach Eflin has a Bullpen meeting on Tuesday.

Adley Rutschman catches this evening after yesterday's game with an injured and slightly swollen right hand.

“He's better,” said Hyde.

The reliever Andrew Kitredge approaches a rehab task. He throws live work on Wednesday.

Tyler Wells has a secondary meeting on Friday. Grayson Rodriguez does not throw, but he goes “well,” said Hyde.

The Outfield Colton Cowser is not clarified for baseball activities, while its broken thumb healing heals, “but it is also much better,” said Hyde.

The Orioles called the reliever Kade Strowd this afternoon and selected left-handed Grant Wolfram to Triple-A Norfolk. Strowd, which was protected in the draft of rule 5, is waiting to make his debut in the Major League after his selection in the 12TH Round of the draft of West Virginia University 2019.

Strowd allowed nine deserved runs and a total of 12 hits in 10 Innerings with Norfolk. He ruled out 18.

“It's pretty good, I'm pretty happy, especially against the Yankees, do you know?” he said. “It's a kind of cliché, but that's how I feel.

“My mother was my first call. I definitely didn't come, but glad that the day came.”

The Orioles claimed left -handed Walter Pennington of unconditional releases. The Rangers identified him to the task last week.

The 27 -year -old Pennington accepted the task as Free Agent, according to several sources. Last year he posted a 3.12 ERA with the Rangers in 15 games (a start). He started the season with the Royals and did not allow a run into two thirds of an inn.

Pennington was selected for Triple-A Round Rock to start this season.

The former general manager of Orioles Deputy General Manager Scott Proefrock was appointed interim general manager of Aberdeen.

Most recently, Profrock was President of New England Knockouts of Independent Frontier League. He also spent 13 seasons with the Phillies, where he acted as an interim and assistant general manager.
