77-year-old man who was killed in a low aircraft crash in rural Ellsworth County

Ellsworth County, Kan. (Kwch) – UPDATE: One person was killed after a small plane crash on Sunday afternoon in the rural district of Ellsworth near the city of Wilson.

According to the crash protocols of the Kansas Highway Patrol, 77-year-old Ronnie Thompson from Lucas flew back to Wichita in Russell County when a witness states that the aircraft went out for no apparent reason.

The NTSB, FAA and KHP all examine the crash.

Investigators of the Kansas Highway Patrol and the National Transportation Safety Board are a small plane crash in rural Ellsworth County on Sunday.

The KHP says that the crash took place on Sunday afternoon around 1:30 p.m. near the intersection of Avenue D and 4. RD. The plane crash was near the city of Wilson.

When soldiers arrived on site, they found a Piper J3C-65 aircraft around.

NTSB and KHP could not confirm any injuries or how many people were on the plane at the time of crash.
