Chatham, Illinois: Shattered vehicle by building, killing 4 young people and hurt others

Chatham, Ill. (AP) – A Crushed car through a building Monday afternoon to kill four young people and to injure several others during a post -school program in a small town outside of Springfield, Illinois, the police said.

At 3:20 p.m., the officials responded to calls for a vehicle that rammed through the building, and fatally hit four people before leaving the other side, said Scott Tarter, deputy head of the Chatham Police Department.

The people killed were between 4 and 18 years old, the Illinois State Police said in an e -mail declaration. The forensic doctor of Sangamon County, Jim Allmon, identified the victims as “female students” and said that their identity was published after family members were notified. Several other people were injured and brought to hospitals.

It was not immediately known what led to the crash or whether it was intended.

The uninjured driver in Illinois was the only resident of the vehicle and was taken to a hospital for evaluation, said Tarter. The police did not say whether the driver was arrested or taken into custody.

“I am horrified and deeply sad about the death of children and numerous injuries in Chatham this afternoon.” Illinois governor JB Pritzker said in an explanation. “My heart is difficult for these families and the unimaginable grief that they experience – something that no parent ever has to endure.”

He said his office had monitored the situation and was ready to give support.

According to his website, the beaten building and furnishing house youth needs other things outdoors that are programmed after school and summer camps.

When the evening fell, police cars led with lights that were still blocked streets to the building that led to the building. The Chatham police department asked for prayers on his Facebook account.

“A terrible tragedy occurred here that affected us all,” the news ended.

By Monday evening, some members of the community and beyond had changed their Facebook profile photos into a picture of a red band and the words “Chatham Strong”.
