Apple Watch SOS feature saves human life after having suffered breathing problems

Apple is again attributed to the rescue of a life through its technology, and this time the main hero is the Apple Watch. A Reddit user named Taylor recently shared a terrifying experience in which his Apple Watch played a crucial role in contacting rescue services after suddenly collapsing due to severe breathing difficulties.

According to Taylor's position, as of 9 to 5 Mac, he reported a sudden start of intensive shortness of breath, which led to the fact that he fell out on the sidewalk and down. At this critical moment, the autumn recognition of his Apple Watch activated. After recognizing the hard fall and the subsequent immobility, the watch automatically initiated a call to emergency services.

Taylor shared his experiences in a Reddit post. He revealed that he had suffered from a cold and cough and thought it was seasonal or maybe covid. “I thought I only had a persistent cold or maybe some strange, covidal symptoms – mainly shortness of breath,” he wrote. However, what started as an apparently ordinary day quickly became life -threatening. “Nothing crazy until an evening after work.”

While he went through an almost empty parking lot, Taylor said that he was suddenly dizzy and spoiled before he blackened. “I hardly made it up to the back of my vehicle before I was black. Next I know that I will come down on the sidewalk, and my Apple Watch vibrates and flashes,” he recalled.

Taylors Apple Watch learned the hard fall and automatically initiated an emergency. Although he saw his watch buzzed, Taylor incorrectly stopped the call in his disoriented condition. At this point, however, the emergency services had already received the warning, and 911 immediately returned the call. “I actually stopped the call in my vacant state (be not like me), but luckily 911 called me back right away. I managed to tell you what happened and that I needed help,” he noted.

Taylor was later brought into the emergency room, where doctors found several blood clots in his lungs, of which one of which blocked oxygen into his heart. “The not -doc later told me that I had about a 50/50 chance not to create it if help hadn't come to me so quickly,” he said.

This incident is another example of how the health and emergency functions in Wearables not only help, but also to save the Apple clock and all functions that the brand has integrated in recent years, including satellite calls, heart frequency conversions, SOS, etc. In this special case it was the fall and the emergency characteristics of the Apple Watch that saved users. These functions should recognize heavy falls and combine users with emergency services if they no longer react.

How Apple Watch autumn detection and SOS work

Apple's autumn recognition function uses extended sensors and movement algorithms such as the accelerometer and the gyroscope to analyze the movement of the user. If a user experiences a hard fall, the watch triggers the function, sounds the alarm and shows a warning. If the user no longer reacts for about a minute, he automatically calls emergency services and divides the location of the user.

The emergency SOS function enables users to quickly call emergency services by pressing and holding the side button on the clock. During the configuration, the device also sends a message to the user's emergency contacts with a map of its location. “When the call ends, your Apple Watch sends your emergency contacts with your current location an SMS unless you choose whether you want to stop,” notes Apple.

In the above case, when Taylor's emergency was triggered, his wife – who was 35 miles away – was only such an alarm. When she was listed as an emergency contact in the health app, she was informed about the fall and knew his exact location in real time. “She knew something was wrong and knew exactly where I was,” wrote Taylor.

How to set up the emergency and health functions on Apple Watch

To activate these functions:

Turn on the autumn detection: Open the Apple Watch -app on your iPhone, go to Emergency SOS and switch on the autumn detection. It is automatically activated for users over 55, but younger users can activate it manually.

Add emergency contacts: Open the health app on your iPhone. Tap your profile picture and then tap on medical ID> Edit. Scroll into emergency contacts to add or update them.

Fill out your medical ID: Open the Medical ID section in the iPhone and add important information such as blood group, allergies and diseases. In an emergency, this information can be accessed by your locked screen by your locked screen in an emergency.
