A leaky oil tanker explodes in Pakistan, kills 2 and injured 56

Quetta, Pakistan – A leaky oil tanker caught fire and exploded along a dusty road in the southwest of Pakistan, killed two people and injured 56 more, said officials on Tuesday.

The explosion occurred as firefighters tried to extinguish the fire in the Naushki district in the province of Belutschistan on Monday, said the local police officer Atta Ullah.

Firefighters and people in a crowd that had gathered at the scene were among the injuries. The tanker and a spectator were killed.

Almost a dozen injuries were in a critical condition and some were flown to the southern city of Karachi, where better medical care is available, said Wasem Baig, a spokesman for the civil hospital in Quetta.

The chief minister of Belutschistan, Sarfraz Bugti, visited the civil hospital in Quetta, the capital of the province, and instructed the doctors to grant the sacrifices the best possible care.

In Pakistan, fatal incidents with oil tankers are not unusual.

In 2017, more than 200 people were killed in Ahmadpur East in the province of Punjab when a fuel tanker caught fire when the residents tried to collect well -off fuel.
