Two people were killed and seriously injured in an airplane crash in Alaska on Monday.

A Cessna 207 aircraft crashed near Meriswalek on Monday afternoon, according to the local outlet Alaska's news source.

Newsweek has contacted the Ministry of Transport and Public Facilities of Alaska for a comment outside of regular working hours.

Why is it important

Aviation data from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have put together dozens of incidents in the first four months of the year.

One of the most serious accidents this year was the collision of January 29 with a trading jet and a military helicopter over the Potomac River. It is not yet clear how many people were on board the small commercial flight, but the NTSB estimates were between three or four.

All three victims killed in the crash were adults, said the Ministry of Public Security in Alaska (DPS). It added that the injured person was taken to a hospital in the anchorage area.

“It is unclear how many people are on board and also unclear, the cause and the injuries,” said the spokesman for the department, Austin McDaniel.

Last month, a small plane crashed on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska, but a family of three survived the incident.

Alaska Department of Safety Said ABC News: “The soldiers of the State of Alaska are on site of a plane crash in Närzalek. Two adults were killed in the incident and an adult was seriously injured and an anchorage area in the region was admitted to a hospital in Anchorage.”

Studies on the incident are still carried out by the NTSB and DPS. The authorities will update the public when more information is available.
