Fatal crash on the Highway 85 in San Jose – NBC Bay Area

A man was killed in San Jose on Sunday evening when a vehicle tipped over on the Highway 85.

The California Highway Patrol replied at 8:06 p.m. to a report on a solo vehicle accident on the southern Highway 85 north of the Almad Expressway.

Officers said a Black Volkswagen Tiguan in 2014 had traveled at unknown speed when the driver, a 48-year-old woman from San Jose, was able to drift the vehicle to the right and dive the road.

The Volkswagen rose up to an embankment and overturned. The passenger, a 46-year-old man who was not wearing a seat belt was ejected from the vehicle.

The passenger died at the scene.

The driver was brought to the Valley Medical Center with minor injuries and arrested for alleged DUI.

All three lanes of the Highway 85 towards the south were closed for an hour.
