Caitlin Tracey Fall: Cook County Coroner shows the main event

The medical examiner from Cook County has ruled that Caitlin Tracey died of a fall, but said that the nature of death remains “indefinite”.

What we know:

The medical examiner from Cook County announced on Monday that Caitlin Tracey, 36, died of “several injuries”. Her body was found on October 27, 2024 in the stairwell of her husband's South Loop.

While her cause of death is now confirmed, the office did not say how or why it fell and has listed her type of death as “indefinite”.

Her husband Adam Beckerink was arrested months later, on March 7, 2025, for a refugee order from Michigan. According to the police and court files in Chicago, the arrest is not directly related to Tracey's death.

Beckerink, 46, is a well -known tax lawyer in Chicago. He was taken into custody in his apartment in the south loop – the same building in which Tracey died.

The arrest warrant in Michigan came from a case of domestic violence in Berrien County, where Tracey had lived in a new house in Buffalo before and during her six -month marriage.

According to court files, the police were called twice in Tracey's house in Michigan in 2023. In one case, it was reported that she accused visible injuries and Becker of attack and theft.

Beckerink is charged with six crimes in Michigan, including domestic violence and resistance to arrest.

The background story:

Tracey's death initially carried out a death examination in Chicago, but the police had not lodged any charges at the end of last year or named a suspect.

She was found in the stairwell of Beckerink's South Loop building after she had fallen more than 20 floors.

After her death, a legal dispute between her parents and Beckerink developed about the handling of their remains. A judge finally gave the parents permission to return their bodies to Michigan.

What's next:

After his arrest on March 7, Beckerink was held in protective authorities in the Cook County prison. It is unclear where the case is currently in Michigan.

It is also unclear whether the updated medical examination results change the direction of the examination of the Chicago Police Department in Tracey's death.
