The Leafs enter the semi -finals of the Eastern Conference after defeating the Ottawa senators in six games. They took over a 3-0 series and looked on the way to a Sweepe before the Senators played game 4 in extra time. Center William Nylander led the team to points during the series with nine (3 g, 6 a), with Mitch Marner's eight (1g, 7 a) took second place.

While Leafs took advantage of the home advantage in round 1, the Panthers did the opposite and won all three games in Tampa Bay on the way to a 4-1 series victory. Only a slipup in game 3 at home (5: 1) has affected a masterful performance and kept the league lightning (1st in the NHL in goals) in five games. The 29-year-old center Sam Reinhart led the team in round 1 with six points (2G, 4A).

Florida and Toronto met four times in the regular season, with Florida winning three out of four.
