Here is a current NBA story from the Associated Press:

Oklahoma City (AP) -Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the young Thunder from Oklahoma City have to go through a team in Denver Nuggets who has already done everything if they want to complete their fantastic regular season with an NBA championship.

Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray led the nuggets to the title in 2023 and helped Denver, the Los Angeles Clipper in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs 4: 3. The Nuggets rolled past the Clipper 120-101 in game 7 on Saturday evening.

Although Oklahoma City had the best record of the league at 68-14, this does not matter if the thunder organizes the Nuggets in the first game of the West semi-final on Monday evening.

“You have championship caliber players, Hall of Fame player,” said Alex Caruso Alex Caruso. “You are experienced, you were there. I think that recently showed in game 7. They didn't blink.

Denver has to recover quickly to face a resting thunder team that was swinging the memphis in the first round.

“Feel blessed to get out of this thing,” said Denver Interims coach David Adelman on Saturday. “This is an unforgettable series. We just don't have time to remember it.”

The real MVP

Gilgeous-Alexander and Jokic are MVP finalists, and there is a good chance that the winner will be announced in this series.

Both teams believe that they deserve to win.

Gilgeous-Alexander led the league at 52% with 32.7 points per game. Chet Holmgren from Oklahoma City noticed the conventional wisdom, which says that the team with the best player wins the series.

“I like this theory because I think, no matter what series we are in, we have the best player,” said Holmgren. “I'll roll with it.”

Denvers Christian Braun said Jokic had a special season. Jokic scored an average of 29.6 points, 12.7 rebounds and 10.2 assists.

“Shai is a great player, so there is obviously no wrong choice,” said Braun. “But to see what Nikola did night and night – I don't know if you will ever see it. Hits Big Shots, takes 3, every time in color, he was great for us.

Supporting stars

There are many players who can go beyond the two stars.

Jalen Williams was also an all-star for thunder. He achieved an average of 23.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists in the series against Memphis.

Holmgren, the runner -up for Rookie of the Year last season, is back and plays well after he missed more than half of the season with a hip injury. He scored an average of 18.5 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.8 blocks against the grizzlies.

Denver counters with Murray and Aaron Gordon. Murray always seems to increase his game in the playoffs and achieve an average of 22.9 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.9 assists against Los Angeles. Gordon scored an average of 18.9 points and 5.7 rebounds against the Clippers.

Old friend

Oklahoma City meets the former Thunder star Russell Westbrook.

Westbrook started his career in Oklahoma City and he became a fan favorite when he kept the franchise over water after Kevin Durant had gone in 2016. During his nine -year -old run with the thunder, Westbrook was the MVP 2017 and a two -time goal, which had a triple double three times.

Westbrook has stayed in the municipality of Oklahoma City and routinely attracts cheers as an opposing player.

“It's like at home for me,” he said. “I always have love for everyone there, the people who fans. I know that it is mutually. But they also know why they love me because I compete at a high level, and I do that every evening. This is all I can do, go out and to compete myself and try to go out and steal one there.”

Coaching Matchup

Adelman joined late in the season after the Nugget's championship coach Michael Malone had fired and had a little puzzle about how Denver will play in the last few minutes of the close games.

Oklahoma City's coach, Mark Daigneult, said he doesn't expect much to change, and noted that Adelman was a long -time assistant under Malone and the change was carried out late in the season.

Daignault said the seven games against the Clippers will only be so helpful.

“Good data point and there is a great understanding of how to play against the Clipperers,” he said. “But there is no great understanding of how you play against us. So it is something we can learn from, but this series will have your own face and develop in its own way.”

Role player

The thunder in the first round had nine players at least 13 minutes. Caruso achieved an average of 20.8 minutes, Cason Wallace 20.5, Isaiah Joe 16.3 and Aaron Wiggins 13.8 as reserves.

Denver does not always go deep into his bank, but the nuggets can produce by many boys. The Nuggets had six players in game 7 at least 15 points against the Clipperers, a premiere in a game 7 in the NBA playoff story.
