Fayetteville Condo Shooting Investigation | Witness in the viral Fayetteeville video says that shooters acted in self-defense

Fayetteville, NC (WTVD) – A now viral video that showed the consequences of a Sunday morning shooting in Fayetteville is questioned by eyewitnesses as a self-defense act.

The man who recorded the video did not want to be identified, but said he heard the shots and immediately grabbed his cell phone and started filming.

“When I spoke my head, a gentleman was dead on the floor. And another gentleman who went around with an AK that was looking for another gentleman who was supposed to come to rob her,” said the witness. “The other Lord ran away. And he killed one of them.”

The Fayetteeville police have announced that 36-year-old Donte Maurice Vanclief was killed at the shootout. The department also did not indicate whether there were arrests or published a suspicious description.

“At this point there is no persistent threat to the public. The investigation remains active and all parties involved cooperate,” wrote the department in a press release.

According to the police, the shootout occurred on Sunday at 10:22 a.m. in the Barton's Landing Condominium Complex on the Cliffdale Road.

Witnesses told ABC11 News that the unidentified shooter believed that someone was after him and had the feeling that he was attacked when he returned home.

“Definitely self -defense,” said the witness. “Because after what I heard, they planned on him a few times. And I think they finally caught him here in his residence. So definitely self -defense.”

The Fayetteeville police would neither confirm nor reject the self -defense claims.

However, the witness “without question” believes that the shooter protected himself. He also said he was waiting for the police to arrive and complied with their survey.

With regard to another person who was involved in the alleged ambush, there is a moment in the video in which the shooter was arrested. He shouted on the band: “I don't know! He ran away! And I'm sitting here and trying to find him now. Because he might be trying to double me.”

On Monday afternoon there were still indications of bullet holes on the side of the building, where the shots were fired.

“This is a weapon of mass destruction. I was afraid of just seeing it,” said the witness. “And that's why I told my girlfriend that she should never come back because you never know what's going on through your head. I am sure that the thing was invited. Only everyone who sees him or something while was going on could shoot us too. So we didn't know what was going on.”

The Fayetteeville police said this was still an active examination. Everyone with information is asked to contact FPD.
