Rayne's police officer shot, killed; State police examined

Rayne, La. (News 15) – According to the state police Louisiana, a police officer from Rayne died according to a shootout.

Soldiers said they were called to examine the shootout, which took place on Monday, May 5th, in the 500 block of the East Harrop Street near the North Chavis Street.

The name of the officer has not yet been published.

LSP examines the circumstances of the officer's death.

A message 15 crew on site heard that an officer stated that it was a case of friendly fire. The soldiers found that they did not confirm this information.

If this fatal shootout on the Rayne officer turns out to be a case of friendly fire, it would be the second friendly fire -death of an officer last year.

You will remember, Nachrichten 15 Investigates reported Lafayette Sr. Cpl. Segus Jolivette died of a friendly fire last summer.
