Chlorine leak in the Allouez Water Facility Hospitalize Worker, quickly included

Green Bay (WLUK) – An employee was sent to the hospital after a chlorine leak in a water treatment plant in Alloez.

Firefighters and the Hazardous Materials Response Team (Hazmat) reacted to the facility in the 141 Vande Hei Road shortly before 11 a.m. on Monday to achieve a potential chemical leak.

On arrival, the crews learned that a 100-pound chlorine cylinder had developed a leak near the valve. The leak was in a designated room of the building with a minimal risk for the residents nearby.

Hazmat has used two team members who were equipped with non-encapsulated steps A suits in the facility. The team successfully contained the leak within a minute after the entry.

During the incident, a worker was suspended and brought to a local hospital for further evaluation.

Air surveillance took place in the area to ensure the safety of the residents in the nearby neighborhood.

The leak has not influenced the safety of the water supply system.
