NBA playoffs snack bar: Knicks Down Celtics in OT, show resilience in game 1

The New York Knicks opposed the chances of winning in the TD Garden on Monday, gathered with a 20-point deficit and survived the Boston Celtics 108-105 in overtime in game 1 of a semi-final playoff of the Eastern Conference.

The Knicks went 25: 9 in the second half to reduce the Celtics' lead to four points, with about nine minutes before playing. A 3 pointer from OG Anunoby cut the deficit to one. A few sequences later, anunoby Dunk gave the Knicks their first tour since the second quarter.

After the first quarter, the Knicks dissolved in the second quarter when a two -point deficit became 16 in the last 7 1/2 minutes before half. The game was revived after the Knicks Boston's 20-point lead had eliminated with around seven minutes before playing at 86.

Jalen Brunson ended with 29 points after ending the first half with as many fouls (three) as he had field goals (3-against-9). Anunoby also had 29 points for the game, and Josh Hart and Karl-Anthony Towns scored 14 each.

Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown each ended 23 points for the Celtics. Derrick White added 19 and Jrue Holiday had 16.

New York won the game with resilience

The Knicks went to Boston as the great outsider after losing all four games of the regular season against the Celtics and beating up in three of the four.

Throughout the season, New York has shown that it is a reliable group that reappeared in the post -season, first in a dog series against the Detroit Pistons and again in game 1 against Boston, which came back from 20 points to profit.

It looked early as if Boston was running out of the building again. However, Boston could not make a 3-point shot and continued to take it. New York raised his defensive intensity and fell too late in the game, mainly from Brunson. The majority of his 29 points came in the fourth quarter.

The Knicks also shot well from 3 as a team and converted 46 percent of their attempts. The Celtics made only 15 out of 60 (25 percent).

The Celtics will certainly not shoot so badly, but the Knicks got the trust they needed. If at all, New York sent a wake -up call to the defending champions. – James Edwards III, Knicks Beat Writer

Non -overtime hunt worked for the Celtics for a while

The Celtics took over game 1 early with creative approaches to non -match. Tatum wanted cities in space so that he could bring the star of the Knicks into bad difficulties. It worked, the cities called out of the game early and Boston took control with the Hack-A Mitschell-Robinson Gambit. But when Anunoby brought New York back into play, Brunson gave his chance to reply.

The cities could not score all night over Al Horford, and a certain Horford stop on the edge triggered Brunson to force Horford to switch to him. The Knicks Guard went to work and bury 3 after 3 in the crunch time to lead the kinks.

This is the life cycle in a high-ranking playoff game. At the beginning of the series, teams have a clear understanding of how they can hit their opponent's weaknesses and make them sting. The first step with New York is to keep the cities out of the game and ruin their distance, since the Celtics canceled very deeply all night. But the advantages do not last long in this phase. It is no longer the first round, and the level of competition has been well organized.

At the end of the fourth quarter, the Celtics redesigned its help scheme when Horford was switched to Brunson and then scored a shot on the free -out line. Horford was able to protect Brunson and pass the pass. Boston managed to defend himself well, and the Knicks tore the ball around and came back by five points in the last minutes of five points to isolate Robinson on the last Celtics ownership. But Robinson forced the Miss and made all his fights early in the game.

These little victories that deal with the cross games will define this series. These teams are well built for each other and have someone on each side who can hunt these advantages during the entire crunch time. The Celtics couldn't hit anything, and the ISO defense of the Knicks was a large part of it, but Boston will finally find her shot. – Jared Weiss, Celtics Beat Writer

Bridges come through when New York needs the most

The last defensive game was no surprise for those who paid attention to Mikal Bridges in the off -season when he increased his physicality at levels that he never achieved during the regular season.

After three seconds before the game and the Celtics, an inbound game led in the hope of tying the game with 3, Brown received a pass that sailed over the head of the bridges. But the Knicks wing didn't even have to have a foul. Instead, he went to basketball. He hugged the ball, leaned in Brown and tore it away from the all-star and threw him on the pitch to seal the victory 1.

It was hardly Bridges' only defensive highlight of the night. At the beginning of the extension, he directed a faulty pass from the borders and dived into his own bank, saved him, dragged a cross-court pass that finally led to a quick break for an anunoby and 1 dunk. It recalled a piece of bridges and Anunoby, the two defensive staled wars, which Hart called the nickname “Wing Stop” at the beginning of the year, completed the pistons in the previous round during a game 6. Anunoby blocked Tobias Harris on the edge against the pistons and gave a fast dark for bridges. The reversed the characters on Monday.

Brunson will receive the honor for his heroic deeds of Crunch-Time, and Anunoby scored plenty of goal, while he also takes over aggressively. Bridges shot 3 against Boston against 13 from the field, but he hit a large 3 pointer in the extension, and his defense came through again when the Knicks needed him most urgently. – Fred Katz, National NBA writer

Have the Celtics shot too many 3 points?

It certainly sounds clichéd: every series is different.

But for Boston this saying sounds like a game of the second round. After the Celtics had to adjust to life without a constant 3-point pointer against the Orlando Magic, they generated the type of appearance that they were used to in the series opener against New York while setting up a playoff record with 60 3-point attempts.

The problem for Joe Mazzulla's team: only a few of these looks went under.

The Celtics made only 15 out of 60, a number of far -open mistakes that came in the third quarter when they could have transformed the game into a loud. In this quarter, 19 of Boston's 20 trials came behind the 3-point arch. The Celtics made eight of these attempts, but missed just enough to make New York in the game and was finally due. The Knicks took the lead with six points at the end of the fourth quarter.

Have the Celtics shot too many 3 points? They probably chose too many appearances from the bounce, especially in the second half. Twice in the last moments of the regulation, Tatum dribbled in 3-point attempts when he had a good matchup to attempted Brunson on the first attempt and Robinson on the second. Tatum missed both attempts when he should probably have gone into the basket instead.

In the long term, the Celtics would probably love the shots that they received for most of the game. You won't miss so many so many, even though it cost them in the serial opener. – Jay King, Celtics Beat Writer
