Warhammer 40k: 3 Big Misses from Codex: Death Guard

Goatboy here with an overview of the three biggest grilles of GW from the new 40 km -Death Guard Codex.

Overall, the Codex is quite strong and has a lot of options, but there is still a few things missing that I would like. The army had now lost various options for the fog of the time, including some of the old school chaos quality.

There are three separate units that I wish of the death guard was held. They are some of the basic chaos Space Marine options that, in my opinion, are missing the guardian. I don't think they are super good units, but offer some options that are missing some of the departments. The XIVTH could also use some funny little “cheap” options to fill the army because I expect the faction to become increasingly expensive because the 10th edition continues.

Bring Nurgle cultivists back

The first easy is the good old cult. This is a unit that I should have for almost all armies on the chaos navy if you have nothing equivalent. They are a simple cheap, small troop unit that can satisfy some battleline options, sticky departments and have a unit that is pretty cool to build and convert. It is also extremely cheap and covers the need to fill the last 50 points that an army may have if you end it. I know that the Poxwalker death guard has, but they are really not a cultistic unit.

Death Guard Terminator Wizard please

The next thing I am missing is a standard type of Terminator magician or Plaguecaster option. There should be not only typhoids as their mental terminator, as the army has known more. You can also create some unique things for your Blightlords to differ from the death section that will soon fill the table tops. Simply let this guy connect the Blightlords because it would force the players to think about the Terminator Dreams teams for the table top.

Death guard Chaos Lord, come back!

The last one is just a basic chaos -Lord -Lord option. Heck I don't know why this is not in Eater's Codex, but the Death Guard used to have one. The new Lord of Pocken is cool, but a unit that could make some funny CP options or at least a cool melee nonsense would be cool. What if he only carried this crazy damaged chain sword with him and could do a funny CP discount and explosive combat options? I think the basic chaos lord is a great cheap character unit to diversify your plague marine options and just give you some fun to convert with all your left -wing plague marine.

All of this would not break the army more than what they already have and let a “room” create to fill out these remaining points. I also like the idea of breaking apart with unique models and units that don't really scream, to create something new. I know that the army no longer needs a Demon engine more or heavy “only yellow” units, so that only a few simple options are great.

Everyone greets the Xivth Legion!
