Ward County competitor successfully at the Air Rifle Match | News, sports, jobs

Devils Lake-Ward County was well represented and successfully represented and successfully represented in the Veterans' Memorial Building in Devils Lake on April 5 at the 4-hour air rifle championship in the State Indoor on April 5.

Young people from six districts of North Dakota took part with 40 competitors. Twelve of the competitors came from Ward County.

“Ward County made up almost a third of the entire participants,” said Nathan Sutton, coach of the 4-H air rifle. “It is phenomenal to see such growth in our program that started with only one handful of children seven years ago.”

Air rifle games are divided by age: beginners (8-10 years), juniors (11-13) and senior (14-18). There is also a master department for at least 14 years that have qualified for a national competition in their age group. Competitors use sports rifles and fires. Beginners shoot from a seated position related to the bench, while juniors and seniors compete in three positions: stand, kneel and susceptible.

Master Air Rifle Division

– Fourth place, Kiley Whillock, Kenmare, score: 505.

– Fifth place, Cady Malmedal, Lincoln, score: 489.

– Seventh place, Zachary Corge, Minot, score: 480.

– Eighth place, Alyssa Korgen, Minot, score: 474.

Junior Air Rifle Division

– Second place, Jase Schilla, Makoti, score: 435.

– Third place, Nolan Lee, Sawyer, score: 367.

– Seventh place, Ryker Vickery, Surrey, score: 308.

– Second team: Lee, Schilla and Vickery, combined points: 1,110.

Beginner air rifle department

– Second place, Kayla Whillock, Kenmare, score: 562.

– Fifth place: Hunter Vickery, Surrey, score: 537.

– Sixth place, Zane Lee, Sawyer, score: 519.

– Tanner Lee and Xavier Lee, both Sawyer.

– First team, Tanner Lee, Xavier Lee, Vickery and Whillock, combined points: 1.618.
