Man and dog in black bear attack near Florida Nature Preserve – The Oakland Press

A man and his dog were killed on Monday morning in a black bear attack near a nature reserve in Florida.

The terrible strike occurred near the rural Big Cypress Wildlife Management area outside of Naples, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission announced in a statement.

The Collier County's office said that an “encounter with bears” was reported at 7 a.m. that the attacks on FWC spokesman George Reynaud said that the attacks were “some time removed” because the man and the dog were not discovered together.

The victim was identified on Monday evening as Robert Markel, 88, a long -time resident in the region.
